Irma Álvarez Laviada

Irma Álvarez-Laviada
(Gijón, Spain, 1978)

Irma Álvarez-Laviada’s work is concerned with the ‘expanded field of painting’ and the way we see, experience and understand art, as well as the system in which art in inserted. Using elements such as packing materials, containers and tools, Álvarez-Laviada reverts the ‘expansion’ of painting, by contracting its elements and focusing not on what we see on the wall as a nished work, but on all the transitory moments and the ‘in between’ aspects of the creative process such as; transit and movement, the negative space left behind by the ‘positive’ image and all that is usually concealed and not suitable for the eyes of the spectator.
